Tell PPS you’d like to keep our trees

Greetings,

In March the Cesar Chavez community organized to plant 8 shade trees in partnership with Friends of Trees. Now Portland Public Schools (PPS) would like to move the 4 trees that are on the eastern edge of the field. It seems that PPS considers this a baseball field even though there are goal posts in the middle of the field and we have never seen baseball played there.

We are reaching out to parents and asking for brief and respectful messages in favor of the trees. You can send a single message and copy all of the people listed below. Please let them know your relationship to the school (i.e. parent, grandparent) and what you think about the trees. Hopefully you’d like them to stay and provide shade and beauty to our playground area.

Molly Chun (Roosevelt cluster director) mollyc@pps.net
Sascha Perrins (PPS Chief of Staff) sperrins@pps.net
Courtney Wilton (Interim Chief Operating Officer) cwilton@pps.net
Elisa Schorr (Chavez Principal) ewinger@pps.net
Gina Roletto (Chavez Associate Principal) groletto@pps.net

If anyone would like to send an anonymous message to PPS, you can send your message to Mark (markfeldman@writingworks.info) or Renée (rvineyardstahl@gmail.com) and we will remove your name and pass it along. And if you’d like any help or have any questions, please contact Mark (510-299-4718) or Renee (503-349-1367).

We’d love to have the PPS administrators listed above arrive to work on Monday morning to an outpouring of support for Chavez and our trees. Thanks for your help and please spread the word!

I am also attaching a flyer (same content as this message) in English and Spanish. Thanks for your help and feel free to copy me on any messages. I’d love to be able to track our community’s support for this issue.

Thanks,
Mark Feldman
