This morning at César Chávez School, the Chávez PTA had its last meeting of the year. Fred Smith led the meeting and thanked all of the volunteers who help make our PTA successful. He also reviewed all of the PTA accomplishments this year. The Chávez PTA in its first year:
- Coordinated the Run for the Cyclones fundraiser to buy computers for a mobile computer lab in the school
- Held the first Chávez Auction to raise money for a covered play area on the playground
- Hosted monthly movie nights
- Hosted two game nights
- Hosted our first STEM night
- Had a bake sale with proceeds going to our first year of Oregon Battle of the Books
- Had dine out fundraisers at the Lombard food carts, and at Flying Pie Pizzaria
- PTA members volunteered at the PTA/PPS Clothing Closet
- Raised money and coordinated sending 13 Chávez kids to a 5 week STEAM Saturday Academy summer camp
- And recently supported the second annual rummage sale with proceeds going to SUN school
At the meeting I presented awards to PTA members who have made extraordinary contributions to our community this year including:
- PTA Superhero award: Keiona R Connor (for working all hours, day and night and steadfast commitment to all things PTA)
- PTA Superhero award: Fred Smith (for his reliability; his calm, collected and amazing attitude, and all the flyers!)
- PTA TCB (Taking Care of Business) Award: Marlon Broussard, auction committee chair
- Best Website Bio award: Jedd Schrock, Colores committee chair
- Lifetime achievement award: Hilda Hernandez, volunteer coordinator and school volunteer
- Fine print award: Daniel Ribeiro (always willing to make a motion and read the minutes!)
- Chavez PTA family award: The Clark Family (who committed endless hours, blood, sweat and tears to this organization, we will miss you!)
- Commitment award: Carmen Flores, school volunteer
