PTA general meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. The meeting includes dinner, child care, and the school provides Spanish translation.
PTA parent/caregiver coffees are held on the first Wednesday of the month from 8:30 am – 9:30 am. The school provides Spanish translation and the meeting includes breakfast goodies and coffee.
César Chávez is hosting our very first auction on April 28, 2018 and we would like to include the products and services your business provides our community. As you know, the families at César Chávez go out of their way to support local and small businesses. The funds raised this year will help to cover the cost of a covered play area for our kids. Presently, kids are stuck inside when the weather is rainy. For Portlanders, this means for most of the school year our kids don’t get to go outside and play. And as you know, play is fundamental to students learning and growth.
Please join us for movie night. Doors open at 5:30 pm, movie starts at 6 pm. Pizza, nachos and other snacks will be available to purchase. All proceeds benefitting the César Chávez PTA. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Join us for Dining Out nights in support of Cesar Chavez’s PTA which directly supports our students, teachers, and parents! You buy dinner from a local restaurant and 15% of the proceeds go directly to Cesar Chavez PTA. Fun will be had by all, you will eat good food and be supporting the PTA all in one.
In 2017, the run for the Cyclones fundraiser focused on raising money to outfit the new computer lab that will serve all students. We raised approximately $11,000 which is close to half of the funds needed to buy a class set of all-in-one PCs. Last year we raised nearly $12,000. The administration would like to allocate the funds to a new computer lab, but no decision has been made yet.
2017-2018 was the first year that Cesar Chavez 3rd to 5th graders had the opportunity to participate in Oregon Battle of the Books. OBOB is a reading program designed to motivate students and get them excited about reading and competing in quiz show style “battles.” Interested students form teams of 4 and work together to read the 16 books on the OBOB book list. The book list is quite varied, exposing students to different genres, styles and subject matter. Ideally, there is something to interest everyone.
Last year, in 2017, the PTA co-sponsored the annual yard sale to benefit the food pantry. Last year the rummage sale raised money for the food bank so it could stay open through the summer. The next annual yard sale will be coming up in the Spring or 2018. Stay tuned for more details.
