César Chávez PTA Meeting Minutes 

March 2, 2021 5:30 – 7pm

Zoom 

Quorum met.

Chair: Keiona R Connor

1. Call to order – Keiona called the meeting to order at 5:35 pm. 
2. Reading and approval of minutes – February minutes approved as written.
3. President’s Report/New business – Keiona R Connor discussed the PPS Successful Schools Survey, needing to get as much input from families as possible. Read-a-thon update – still waiting on finalizing the t-shirt order and then the grants will be available for the teachers. Today families brought snacks for the teachers and staff.
4. Treasurer’s Report – Blake Goud presented the report.
5. New business – 

1. Raffle – Keiona R Connor discussed doing a 50/50 raffle, where half of the funds go to the winner of the raffle and half of the money goes to the PTA. The money would be raised online and in person. There would be a cost to getting a license to have the raffle (maximum cost of license $100). Daniel Ribeiro made a motion for our PTA to have a raffle fundraiser this spring. Tricia seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 
2. Funds from the 50/50 raffle – Leah made a motion to use the funds from the 50/50 raffle to go toward a 2022 spring celebration. Daniel Ribeiro seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. 
3. Committee Updates

1. Green team – Alice spoke to Shona’s recommendation to hire a grant writer to move forward on improvements to the playground. Keiona mentioned there is a Chávez parent who was interested in volunteering and if they are no longer available then we should find out the cost of hiring a grant writer. Shona will reach out to the parent who volunteered to work on grants. 
2. Transportation and Safety – Paul Buchanan – Update on Portsmouth and Willis – Project was handed off to North Portland in Motion. Anyone can email mike.serritella@portlandoregon.gov to give feedback. The speed reader boards at Portsmouth and Willis are supposed to be installed this month. The protected intersection work at Portsmouth and Willis should be done at a later date. Blake Goud our transportation chair will contact Mike Serritella to see if we can get this done as soon as possible. 

7. Call for volunteers:

1. Since there is no meeting in April, the 50/50 Raffle and spring celebration (Tricia volunteered to help, as well as Keiona) will be done in committee. Discussion around volunteers needed. Keiona is asking all who attended and those who did nor or could not attend to get involved or reach out to their communities to get involved. You can email Keiona at keiona@cesarchavezpta.org if you can help. Any amount of time commitment is welcome!

8. Announcements 

1. Next PTA Meeting: Wednesday, May 4 20222 5:30 pm – 7 pm – via Zoom NO MEETING IN APRIL
2. Treats for teachers Wednesday, April 6 2022 8 am
3. No school March 21-25, 2022 for spring break
