PTA General Meeting Minutes 10/6/21

César Chávez PTA Meeting Minutes 

October 6, 2021 5:30 – 7pm

Zoom 

Chair: Keiona R. Connor. Quorum met. 

  1. Welcome  – Keiona R. Connor welcomed everyone.
  2. Call to order – Keiona called the meeting to order at 5:37 pm.
  3. Reading and approval of minutes – September minutes approved without correction
  4. President’s Report – Keiona R. Connor gave an update: School asked for volunteers to help with tents to cover the outdoor area where students are eating – 15 volunteers helped. PTA also brought snacks to teachers and staff this morning and the staff has been very appreciative. That will be recurring on the first Wednesday of every month.  
  5. Assistant Principal Report – Ms. Johns gave a report. Lunch: when the weather is nice they are setting up for lunch outside. When it is rainy, they are moving to indoor lunch/recess. Some classes are in their classroom, some classes are in the cafeteria, some in the gym, some in the covered outdoor area to  keep them 6 feet apart while eating, not always able to keep kids at 6 feet distance. Indoor it is 1 adult per classroom. Covid 19 case update – different types of letters to send out – close contact defined as within 3 feet for 15 minutes or longer. Quarantine/isolate is the same – multnomah county health department is asking students to quarantine. If students or staff are vaccinated and in close contact they can come back to school and if they develop symptoms they are then tested. For learning during quarantine – the district is making an online portion for their class – can still log on. Can email teachers also to ask. OHSU testing – school does not know how long that will take, have heard it might be a week and a half maybe sooner/longer. No updates on boundary changes.
  6. New business
    1. Standing Rules, Keiona discussed the proposed change. Betsy Bridge made a motion to approve the standing rules as written, Blake Gound seconded. Unanimous approval.
    2. Willamette Pie fundraiser will happen in November – Leah Hinson made a motion to use 80% of the money raised from the Willamette Pie Fundraiser to go toward teacher grants and 20% to the general PTA fund. Betsy Bridge seconded. Unanimous vote in favor.
    3. Update signer’s for bank account – The signers for the bank account for the 2021-2022 school year are: Keiona Rochelle Connor, Veronica Arenas Marshall, Nicole Dalton and Richard B Goud.
  7. Treasurer’s Report – Blake presented the treasurer’s report
  8. Committee Updates/Formation
    1. Outdoor improvements/Advocacy – This will be important especially this year with Covid. 
    2. Fundraising – thinking of doing a read-a-thon this year, if anyone is interested in working on this, reach out to the board. Willamette Pie is a fundraiser coming up. Looking for grant writers as well. We are still planning to do an auction in the spring, it will look different this year, but we will need a lot of help with this later in the year. 
    3. Communications – Shona Lepis is the chair
    4. Green Team – Alice White-Cyr is the chair and gave an update. This year, Eco school network has some funds to work toward an outdoor classroom.
    5. Transportation and Safety – Blake and Veronica and working on those issues around the school, Alice would like to be involved as well
  9. Announcements and Adjournment
    1. Remind app – important so families can communicate with teachers 
    2. Parent Vue – where families can view grades

    4. Weekly Covid testing opt in form. Test is sent home with the child and you return the sample to the school. If you haven’t received a form, can get one from the office
    5. No school this Friday October 10/8/21
    6. Amazon Smile – can add Cesar Chavez PTA to Amazon smile so the PTA can raise funds, can also add Cesar Chavez PTA to Fred Meyer Rewards
    7. Next PTA Meeting: Wednesday, November 3, 2021 5:30 – 7 pm
