September PTA Meeting Minutes

September 7, 2022 5:30 – 7pm

César Chávez School Library 

Quorum met. 

Chair: Veronica Arenas Marshall

1. Veronica called the meeting to order at 5:47 pm.
2. Guest Speaker – Hanna from Community Cycling Center:  CCC does the after school bike club program with SUN. That program will start in a couple of weeks. They have also done a walk and roll to school day. Saturday,  September 24th, a close of the HUB bike ride will take place 11:30 am – 1 pm, you can check out a bike at 10 am. Must sign a liability waiver to do the ride. They like to add to other community events throughout the year. They are available to support our events. 
3. Introductions were made by the PTA board and the attendees.
4. Discussion – what is a PTA? Discussed what our PTA does and the history of our PTA and National PTA. Members of our PTA are members of Oregon PTA and National PTA. 
5. The minutes from May 4, 2022 were reviewed and approved as written. 
6. President’s Report and New business – Veronica gave the president’s report:
   1. Run for the Cyclones will happen September 27, 2022. Discussed what the event is, where the funds will go and call for volunteers. 
   2. Bake Sale – September 16, 2022 – this will happen in the front of the school right after pick up. Tricia Hitchcock made a motion to have the proceeds from the bake sale go to the PTA general fund. Motion was seconded.  Motion passed unanimously. 
7. Treasurer’s Report – Blake Goud gave the treasurer’s report.  He also discussed forming the fundraising committee to work on grant funding to augment the funds we have raised for a covered area on the playground; several members have signed up for this committee.  He also is the chair of the transportation and safety committee and is asking for help on that committee. 
8. Committee Formation/Volunteer information:
   1. Keiona R Connor – Encourages our community to add Cesar Chavez PTA to their Amazon Smile account. She also encourages the community to link your Fred Meyer Rewards card to our PTA. For returning guardians, make sure the office has your most up to date information – phone number, address etc, emergency contacts. Photo consent – you must opt out if you don’t want your student’s image taken or used by PPS.
   2. Committee Formation – Handout passed out to join committees of the PTA.
   3. Volunteer Opportunities – Clothing Closet needs volunteers on September 19 2022. Volunteer from around 9:30-1:30. Run for the Cyclones will need volunteers on September 27, 2022. We will need help stapling envelopes tomorrow 9/8.

   1. September 15, 2022 Back to School Night
   2. September 16, 2022 3-5th grade field trip 
   3. Bake Sale, September 16, 2022 2:15 pm front of the school
   4. September 19, dental sealants
   5. No school, Friday September 23, 2o22
   6. Run for the Cyclones, September 27, 2022
   7. Next PTA Coffee October 5, 2022 8:15 am in cafeteria
   8. Next PTA Meeting October 5, 2022 5:30 pm – 7 pm ZOOM
